Julien is the result of a musical journey undertaken in 2007 by guitarist Julien Colarossi, originally from Settefrati (Frosinone), who moved to Dublin (Ireland) to study at the prestigious jazz music school 'Newpark music centre', part of the 'Berklee College of Music' (Boston) European Network.
After graduating in 2011, Julien continued his career in Ireland and quickly established himself as a performer, composer and teacher in the Irish jazz scene. In addition to obtaining a position as a guitar teacher at Newpark music center, he has recorded and released 4 albums as a leader/composer with his quartet, quintet and duet. His latest album “In my Nature” is a collaboration with the super Irish singer and vocal coach Gemma Sugrue.
Julien has performed as a leader and sideman at all of Ireland's prestigious festivals such as Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, Limerick Jazz Festival, Down With Jazz, Galway Jazz Festival, Bray Jazz Festival and the Derry Jazz Festival. After an initial period spent integrating singing into his musical background and writing new repertoire, incorporating voice and lyrics in the compositions, Julien, together with drummer Gianluigi di Bona and double bass player Federica Michisanti, founded a new project, 'Julien ', with whom he has already performed in important contexts of Italian clubs and festivals, combining the sound of Italian jazz and lyricism with a soft but engaging groove, a very acoustic sound that ranges from the tight rhythms of pop to the harmonic richness of jazz.
The repertoire has a very personal identity that recalls the harmonic sweetness of Chet Baker, the ethereal approach to pop of Brad Meldhau and the compositional intensity of Wayne Shorter. Julien has never lost the common thread that linked him to his territory and in 2012, 2016 and 2019 he performed on the main stage of the Atina Jazz Festival, a thread that brought him back to Settefrati, his hometown, in 2021.
